New model of Beekeeping for a modern time

Purbrook District Beekeeping Association (PDBKA) will be launching a membership drive in the Portsmouth, Waterlooville and Havant Area initially in the next few months. The aim and objective of this new Beekeeping Association is to attract a much younger members of the community, who will inject new ideas into Beekeeping . There are other Association's in the Portsmouth & surrounding area who's membership span a much older age distribution, and following a more established way in Beekeeping. At Purbrook Beekeeping we wish to attract a more younger age range who are into technology, and adopt a new model of Beekeeping.

At Purbrook District Beekeeping emphasis will be on attracting a meridian age ranging from 20’s to a maximum of 45, the rational behind this thinking is that a much younger generation will inject new ideas and use of technology based concepts in beekeeping, which will allow better overhaul management of beekeeping, and Bee disease mitigation and controllability, and using the metrics of Artificial Intelligance and Machine Learning concepts gathering data using IOT smart hives provide valuable information for various research institutions. One can invistage the Beekeeper of the future asking Alexa what is the condition of Hive one, or asking for Alexa to give a status report on the hives in an apiary.

In order for Machine Learning (ML) to be effective a data sample size of at least 3000 samples is required less then this number would render just normal statistical analysis and, most younger generation are atuned with modern technology, the use of Apps and the social spanning and networking, applying these techniques to Beekeeping will have a more positive outcome upon beekeeping, healthier bees, new methods to protect Hives against the threat of Asian Hornets and better honey yields. The new generation of younger Beekeepers will advance the hobby and the survivability of Bees, using the state of the art smart hive monitoring which Purbrook District Beekeeping will be developing in conjunction with leading platform integrators which will be networked data from a distribution of hives using IOT and cloud computing with AI and ML techniques. Gone are the old days of hive management with frequent 5/8 days inspection which cause disruption to the Bee Colney, the modern way is to listen and eavesdrop on the audio and vibration communications of the Bee language apply ML/AI techniques and then to act upon this information during swarming cutting down the number of brood inspections causing less disruption, the beekeeper only has to manage providing space for an increasing bee population for honey yield and harvesting during the summer months.

There will be some distractor’s from the more senior Beekeepers and other established national bodies and Association who have bee brought up on the old methodology for the past 50 years, who’s to say they are correct in their approach? What is needed is a balanced approach encompassing modern techniques, cleaver observations and Bee communications through modern electronic sensors techniques and digital data computation techniques.

Purbrook District Beekeeping Association (PDBKA) intents to be the new model for Beekeeping in the 21st century, setting standards in the UK for other forwarding looking new Associations and Society's to follow.
